SPIC MACAY and Kerala Piravi
Our students were mesmerized by the awe inspiring performance put in by the talented Langa Manganiars, a folk singer group from Rajasthan in a programme organized by SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth).
As part of the Kerala Piravi celebrations in school on November 1st, 9 artists from the group performed the Kalbela dance and the Bhawai dance accompanied by the ‘been’ and ‘duff’ musical instruments. The folk dancers fascinated one and all as they picked needles, razor blades and rings with their eyebrows whilst dancing. They also performed while balancing 11 utensils on their head, all the time standing on swords, glass pieces and nails. Their vocal music was accompanied by the kamyacha, khartal, morchang, sitar, algoja and matka. The programme was enjoyed by all.
